Santa Barbara, June 7, 2026

David Alaba missed the third training session of the Austrian national team in Santa Barbara on Sunday and instead trained individually.

The squad led by head coach Ralf Rangnick is preparing in the United States for the upcoming World Cup. The third session of the squad was scheduled for Sunday at the Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara. While his teammates were on the pitch, Alaba worked individually on his comeback, according to the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB). The 33-year-old had been forced to leave the field early in the last friendly against Tunisia (1:0) due to a hamstring tightness.

Workload management and jet lag

According to the ÖFB, Alaba is expected to rejoin team training on Monday or Tuesday. The association had already emphasized on Saturday that the absences were a 'ganz normaler Prozess'. The medical department said they were in a critical phase with regard to jet lag. After no more than seven days, all players should have adjusted to the nine-hour time difference compared to Vienna.
