Alaba to Milan: Glasner plans transfer in coaching deal

The Austrian national team captain is currently without a club after his contract with Real Madrid expired. "The defender has already been offered to several clubs, including Milan's rival Inter Milan, the sports paper reported". Alaba is 33 years old and is battling the after-effects of several injuries since the 2023/24 season, "including a torn cruciate ligament as well as muscle and meniscus problems".

Oliver Glasner most recently won the Conference League with English Premier League club Crystal Palace and is continuing talks about a possible new coaching position at AC Milan. An appointment at the Italian top club would be the next career step for the Upper Austrian after years in the English Premier League.

Rangnick as possible sporting director

At the same time, speculation is circulating about talks between Milan and Austria team boss Ralf Rangnick, who is said to be set to move to Milan as sporting director. Should both Glasner and Rangnick join the Rossoneri, the sporting leadership of the traditional club would be strongly Austrian in the future.

The personnel questions come during a turbulent sporting phase for AC Milan. After missing out on Champions League places, the club faces a rebuilding process.
