AMEOS Takes Over Friedrichshafen Hospital: Criticism and Unanswered Questions

Dr. Axel Paeger, co-founder and physician, is CEO of AMEOS and reportedly holds the majority stake. The company reinvests all financial surpluses.

The Salzlandkreis district and AMEOS have been in dispute for 14 years over privatized hospitals. Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne considers the districts responsible.

Eva von Angern of The Left Party criticizes the lack of a clear strategy in case of operator failure. The AfD also sees the problem in the regulatory framework.

Political Reactions

The CDU complains that hospitals have not been sufficiently stabilized in recent years. The Greens warn against private market players pushing the boundaries of decency.

The state parliament has referred the issue to the social affairs committee. The state government is working on a new hospital law, which is expected to be passed before the September elections.
