The AI company Anthropic has filed its stock market documents with the U.S. securities regulator SEC and, with a valuation of $965 billion, leads rival OpenAI, which filed its own application a few days later.
The order is remarkable: just a week earlier, Anthropic had announced its IPO, and OpenAI followed with its own SEC filing. The completion of this step is still expected this year. Both firms are competing with Anthropic and its Claude chatbot – and OpenAI is also behind ChatGPT, by far the most widely used consumer product in the AI business.
Concretely, the valuation ratio signals a shift in sentiment at the top of the field. Following a new funding round, Anthropic is now valued at $965 billion and has thus overtaken OpenAI. Shortly before announcing its IPO, the U.S. company had said, after a new funding round, that it was now more valuable than OpenAI. In total, Anthropic has raised $126.8 billion in investment rounds.
