Match Progression

Before the match in Rijeka, the first of two Croatian dress rehearsals before the World Cup tournament, the visitors from Belgium showed composure in the decisive moments. Youri Tielemans gave coach Rudi Garcia's team the lead in the 38th minute, and Romelu Lukaku, who came on as a substitute later, decided the encounter in the sixth minute of stoppage time (90+6). The score was 1-0 for Belgium at halftime, and 2-0 at the end.

Jérémy Doku provided the assist for the 1-0 goal, advancing down the left flank and crossing into the penalty area. The ball was deflected by three different players before finding Tielemans, who scored from close range. Tielemans is under contract with Premier League club Aston Villa and had recently scored in the Europa League final against SC Freiburg.
