A fire that broke out during the night between Saturday and Sunday at an electrical substation in Reutlingen, in Baden-Württemberg, caused a blackout that left about 7,600 households and around 30,000 people without electricity, while police are investigating in all directions, including possible arson.

According to reports from the city authorities, the alarm was raised at 1:43 a.m., when firefighters were informed of the outage. Just two minutes later came the report of a fire inside the facility: "Die Feuerwehr wurde um 1.43 Uhr über den Stromausfall informiert. Zwei Minuten später erhielt die Feuerwehr den Hinweis auf den Brand im Umspannwerk", according to accounts circulated by dpa.
