Bonn, June 2, 2026
The Bonn Criminal Court (Bonner Schwurgericht) on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, sentenced a 64-year-old Bonn resident to nine years in prison for manslaughter (Totschlag) in the case of the violent death of a 70-year-old hotelier, found lifeless in his establishment in Bornheim-Hersel in August 2025.
The verdict came after several weeks of trial before the Bonn Regional Court chamber. The court ruled that the evidence gathered by the prosecution did not establish murder within the meaning of the German Criminal Code, but that the defendant remained criminally liable based on a convergence of circumstantial evidence. The accused was found guilty of Totschlag, meaning manslaughter, and not Mord.
