Berlin, 09 June 2026

German volleyball champions BR Volleys have hired Italian Andrea Anastasi as head coach on a two-year deal, the Berlin club confirmed on Tuesday.

A coaching reset after a turbulent season

The appointment ends an unusually turbulent season in which the Berlin side used three different head coaches. Anastasi, 65, takes over a team that has won the German championship ten times in a row but underperformed in both the German Cup and the Champions League. Managing director Kaweh Niroomand framed the move as the start of a new chapter for the record champions. "Wir wollten den Neubeginn. Da wollten wir einen, der große Erfahrung hat, der Autorität hat, er hat alles schon erlebt", Niroomand said, adding that he wanted "die Nummer eins auf dem Markt nach Berlin holen".
