The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 452 according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with 82 infected people having died; in Uganda, 19 cases have been recorded.

Extent of the Outbreak

The epidemic in Central Africa is expanding. As the WHO announced on 06.06.2026, the number of confirmed infections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo rose to 452, including 82 deaths. In Uganda, there are 19 confirmed Ebola cases, and two infected people have died there. This means the WHO recorded a hundred confirmed infections and 20 deaths more than on Friday. In total, at least 488 people in the region have fallen ill according to government figures, and 86 of them have died from the infection.

The World Health Organization had declared a "public health emergency of international concern" in mid-May because of the epidemic – its second-highest alert level. This classification is intended to increase international attention and facilitate the provision of additional resources. "According to government figures, at least 488 people have fallen ill," it was stated.
