Hamburg, June 05, 2026
FC St. Pauli has appointed Marcel Rapp as their new head coach, filling the vacancy left by Alexander Blessin, who the Hamburg-based second-division club had parted ways with a day earlier.
The 47-year-old Rapp takes over the coaching position at the Millerntor stadium with immediate effect, as the club announced on Friday. Sporting director Andreas Bornemann justified the choice by citing the new coach's experience in German professional football. "We are delighted to have gained a coach in Marcel Rapp who brings experience in German professional football and has already proven that he can both shape teams and develop players. For the Second Bundesliga, we will have to adjust our approach somewhat again," said Bornemann.
Rapp himself spoke of a "very exciting task" and announced his intention to immediately begin preparations for the season. "A very exciting task awaits at FC St. Pauli, and I am very eager to start preparations for the new season right away. The club is ambitious and has continuously developed in recent years. Now I want to actively shape the next steps at Kollaustraße and at the Millerntor," explained the new coach.
