German Health Minister Nina Warken is planning to increase the long-term care insurance contribution surcharge for childless individuals by 0.1 percentage points, according to a media report citing coalition sources.
The RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) reported on Tuesday that the CDU minister's reform plans would raise the surcharge for childless insured persons from 0.6 to 0.7 percent. This would bring the total contribution rate for childless individuals aged 23 and over to 4.3 percent of their gross salary.
The total rate is composed of an unchanged employer contribution of 1.8 percent and an increased employee share of 2.5 percent. For insured persons with children, the current reduced rates would remain in place: 1.8 percent for one child, 1.55 percent for two, and 1.3 percent for three children.
