German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron have reached a shared assessment that the companies Dassault and Airbus cannot agree on building a joint fighter jet, effectively ending a multi-billion-euro Franco-German defense project that had been in preparation for years.

According to information from German government circles, Merz and Macron concluded during their discussions that Dassault and Airbus, the two industrial partners, are unable to come together on a common aircraft.
