The German national football team won its final warm-up match for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada on Saturday in the sold-out Soldier Field in Chicago, defeating host USA 2:1 (1:1).
As early as the 2nd minute, Florian Havertz gave the team of head coach Julian Nagelsmann the lead. "Der ungedeckte Florian Havertz traf schon in der 2. Minute per Kopf nach einer Freistoßflanke von Joshua Kimmich", the match report stated. The early lead gave the Germans confidence, but the USA struck back.
Antonee Robinson scored the equalizer in the 37th minute. "Antonee Robinson (37.) sehenswert der Ausgleich, er versenkte einen Volley nach einem weggeköpften Ball unter der Latte", the reporter described the goal. Christian Pulisic had previously squandered chances for a quick brace. After sometimes very heavy rain, a hard-fought match developed in which the USA remained dangerous in phases.
