Aachen, 08 June 2026
Activists from the environmental organization Greenpeace covered the previous recommendation of 130 kilometers per hour with stickers for 100 km/h in the early morning hours at all 26 border crossings of German autobahns in order to call for a general speed limit on autobahns.
Course of the action
As a dpa reporter reported, activists climbed onto a section of the A4 autobahn near Aachen early on Monday morning and attached a sticker bearing the number 100 at the Ventschau autobahn border crossing point, where the number 130 had previously been visible as a non-binding recommended speed. On the sign, which originally showed three columns with the information 50 km/h in built-up areas, 100 km/h outside built-up areas and the blue recommended speed of 130 km/h on autobahns, the autobahn column was altered accordingly. The digits, however, were larger than on a binding traffic sign, and the word "Greenpeace" was printed below the number 100 in order to make the protest character of the action clear.
