The Hague, 09 June 2026
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, has been suspended from duty with immediate effect by the Bureau of States Parties, while a UN commission investigates allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
The 21-member Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties in The Hague decided, by a qualified majority according to its own statements, to suspend the prosecutor from duty with immediate effect until the Assembly of States Parties, as the competent decision-making body, reaches a final decision. The Bureau announced this on the previous evening. A final decision on a possible removal from office is to be made by the States Parties at a special session, which is to take place as soon as possible.
