Accra, Ghana — April 3, 2026
Ghana is reportedly considering former Germany manager Joachim Löw as a candidate for its vacant national team coaching position following Otto Addo’s departure.
The Ghanaian Football Association is searching for a new head coach after relieving Otto Addo of his duties. Sources indicate Joachim Löw, who led Germany to World Cup glory in 2014, is among the potential candidates. Löw has expressed interest in returning to international management, specifically targeting the 2026 World Cup across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. In a recent statement, he said: *"Was allerdings für mich schon auch ein Ziel ist, die WM 2026, Amerika, Kanada, Mexiko. Das fände ich schon spannend."* ("What I do find interesting, though, is the 2026 World Cup, America, Canada, Mexico. I find that interesting.") However, Winfried Schäfer, technical director of the Ghanaian Football Association, stated he was unaware of any imminent agreement with Löw. The former Germany coach has reportedly not received any appealing offers since leaving his role after the 2021 European Championship. Ghana faces a challenging World Cup group stage against England, Croatia, and Panama, heightening the urgency to appoint a new manager. Löw’s experience in major tournaments could make him a compelling choice for the role.
Löw stepped down as Germany’s manager in 2021 after 15 years in charge, during which he won the 2014 World Cup and the 2017 Confederations Cup.
