Berlin, 09 June 2026
Kai Wegner, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, has been nominated as the CDU's lead candidate for the Berlin state election on September 20, winning 92.6 percent of delegate votes at a state party convention in Neukölln.
A vote of confidence in Neukölln
The nomination, which came without an internal challenger, was framed by delegates as a vote of confidence in Wegner's leadership of the CDU-SPD coalition government he has led in Berlin since 2023. Speaking at the convention, Wegner struck an optimistic note about the government's record, saying: "Wir sind erfolgreich gewesen. Es waren drei gute Jahre für Berlin."
