Kim de l'Horizon was awarded the Mülheim Drama Prize in Mülheim an der Ruhr on Saturday evening for the play "Die kleinen Meerjungraun."

Born in Switzerland, the non-binary person Kim de l'Horizon (34) received the prize, endowed with 15,000 euros, on Saturday evening as part of the 51st Mülheim Theatre Days. The decision of the five-member jury was made in a public session in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The play, directed by Alia Luque as a production of the Bühnen Bern, was shown in the competition and celebrated its world premiere there.

The five-member jury praised the "sprudelnde, dichte und humorvolle Sprachspiel." It also highlighted the imagery-rich language and numerous successful wordplays. According to a press release, it tells a story inspired by Andersen's fairy tale about longing, love, and the social pressure to conform. A communication from the Theatre Days described the play as a plea against normative thinking and for a path toward queer self-liberation.
