In Berlin-Neukölln, the new "Sri Ganesha Hindu Temple" on Hasenheide was solemnly consecrated on Sunday, with Berlin politicians and the Indian Ambassador Ajit Gupte taking part in the ceremony.

During the consecration ceremony, material was poured over the top of the temple tower using a crane: "Mithilfe eines Krans wurde es über die Spitze des Tempelturms gegossen." This marked the climax of the celebrations that had been ongoing since the middle of the week, according to a report by Deutschlandfunk dated 07.06.2026.

Architecture and Symbolism

The temple bears the name of the elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesha and is also referred to in German as a "Königturm" (tower of kings). The colorful facade of the so-called Königturm is adorned with more than 200 sculptures, and the portal is decorated with 250 hand-painted figures.
