Canadian actor Michael J. Fox, world-famous as Marty McFly from the "Back to the Future" trilogy, celebrates his 65th birthday on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.
Childhood and Career Beginnings
Michael J. Fox was born on 9 June 1961 in Edmonton, Canada. His father worked for the Canadian Army, which meant the family moved frequently. Growing up with three sisters and two brothers, Fox gathered his first acting experiences as a teenager in Canadian and later in American television films in Los Angeles.
Fox celebrated his breakthrough on television in the 1980s with the comedy series "Family Ties." His definitive leap to film stardom came in 1985 with Steven Spielberg's science fiction trilogy "Back to the Future," in which he portrayed the time traveler Marty McFly. In the film, Fox also showcased his talent as a guitarist and skateboarder. He adopted the stage name "Michael J. Fox" because the actors' union had already registered a member named Michael Fox; his actual middle name is Andrew.
