The NEOS party intends, as part of the ongoing "Higher Education Strategy 2040," to critically review the number of universities and study programs in Austria, and on Monday discussed this in parliament with the former EU Director-General for Research and Innovation, Robert-Jan Smits.
NEOS science spokesperson Martina von Künsberg Sarre stated in a press release that the current 77 higher education institutions and 3,600 study programs in Austria must be critically questioned. "Aber auch die international große Anzahl von 77 Einrichtungen und 3.600 Studien müssen wir kritisch hinterfragen", she is quoted as saying. In light of international competition, the party sees a need for action to strengthen excellence, talent development, and the visibility of the location.
