Halle, 29 May 2026

Starting June 14, new S-Bahn trains with increased passenger capacity will enter regular service on parts of the S5 and S5X lines between Halle and Leipzig.

The first deployments are scheduled for the minor timetable change on June 14, according to the operator Länderbahn. The company confirmed that 23 of the 41 ordered railcars have so far been delivered, approved, and accepted.

When coupled together, two of the new trains reach a total length of around 140 meters. This configuration is designed to offer significantly more room for travelers on the busy commuter routes.
