Schleswig, 29 May 2026

The Schleswig-Holstein state constitutional court is delivering its verdict today at 10 a.m. in a dispute over whether the state government unlawfully withheld information about financial risks from the parliamentary finance committee before it approved a guarantee for the Northvolt battery factory near Heide.

The so-called Organstreitverfahren (organ dispute proceeding) centers on what the state government told the finance committee ahead of a decisive session in January 2024. At that meeting, lawmakers unanimously cleared the path for a convertible bond of around €600 million from the state development bank KfW, with the federal and state governments each backing half of the guarantee.
