Graz, June 8, 2026

Two days before the first anniversary of the rampage shooting at BORG Dreierschützengasse in Graz, education officials, the school leadership, and parents provided information on the status of the processing, the planned return to the school site, and the careful handling of remembrance.

On June 10, 2025, a 21-year-old who had himself been a student at BORG Dreierschützengasse had used a legally owned Glock 19 pistol and a sawed-off shotgun to fire indiscriminately at students and teachers in several classrooms on two upper floors. Within roughly seven minutes, he fired 40 shots, killed nine young people and one teacher, and seriously injured eleven other people, before taking his own life. The act shocked Austria and triggered a debate about legal loopholes regarding weapons, about violence prevention, and about the protection of schools.
