Following a power outage in parts of Reutlingen affecting around 7,600 households, authorities are investigating in all directions and examining a possible arson attack on critical infrastructure.

In parts of Reutlingen, the power went out overnight into Monday. At midday, around 7,600 households were still affected, including the city hospital. Investigators now assume arson as the cause. They are examining whether an arson attack has occurred or even a terrorist act, according to sources close to the investigation.

Interior Minister Hagel stated that investigations would be conducted "ergebnisoffen in alle Richtungen." However, it was still too early for a final assessment. Reutlingen police announced "verstärkte Präsenzmaßnahmen" in the area of critical infrastructure. A police rapid response unit would patrol the affected districts "damit sich die Menschen sicher fühlen könnten."
