Using transport air cushions, two reconstructions of late Roman ships, each around 21 meters long, have been moved to their new location within the permanent exhibition at Mainz's Museum of Ancient Shipping.

The Museum of Ancient Shipping is currently preparing to reopen after four years of closure. According to Henriette Baron, exhibition director at the Leibniz Centre for Archaeology (Leiza), relocating the two ship reconstructions was a complex logistical operation within the building. The ships, measuring between 18 and 21 meters in length, faithfully reproduce two of the ancient vessels discovered in Mainz dating from the 4th/5th century AD, Baron explained. One of the two reconstructions is believed to be an imperial travel ship, while the other is a patrol boat, which Baron described as particularly fast.
