Stuttgart, 08 June 2026

Deutsche Bahn intends to provide information on a new commissioning concept for the Stuttgart 21 rail project after the Steering Committee meeting on 26 June, following media reports — citing project circles — that the through-station will not go into full operation until the end of December 2031.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) was first to report, citing people familiar with the project, that the opening of the through-station will have to be pushed back to the end of 2031. SWR picked up the report and also wrote, with reference to circles among the project partners, that Stuttgart 21 is to go into full operation in December 2031. This would push back the timetable for the major project, which has been contested for decades, by several more years.
