Urs Kessler has resigned as President of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, Swiss Ice Hockey, with immediate effect on Monday.
In a communiqué sent out early in the morning, Kessler justified his step with the ongoing discussions within the association. "I have decided to step down as President with immediate effect and make way for a new beginning, which the association urgently needs. The continuous discussions have shown me that I am not the right person for this," he was quoted as saying.
The resignation comes as no surprise. Kessler had lost several votes on the Board of Directors in recent weeks and was increasingly isolated. Previously, he had failed in an attempt to oust CEO Martin Baumann – a move that was clearly rejected by the board.
