Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Vienna Chamber of Commerce President Walter Ruck met Pope Leo XIV during the general audience at the Vatican on Wednesday.

After the audience in St. Peter's Square, Ludwig and Ruck personally greeted the Pope and briefly exchanged words with him. Ludwig presented the Pope with Lobmeyr glasses featuring depictions of St. Stephen's Cathedral and Vienna City Hall as a gift, and invited the Pope to visit Vienna.

According to a statement from the City of Vienna, the meeting included an exchange about major current political and societal challenges. The conversation focused particularly on the geopolitical situation in Europe, the importance of international cooperation, and ethical questions related to artificial intelligence and digitalization.
