Negotiations over the Renewable Energy Expansion Acceleration Act (EABG) continued on Tuesday, while the Greens reaffirmed their rejection of the current draft ahead of the National Council vote scheduled for Thursday.

Slim majority: What Green approval would mean

The government coalition of ÖVP, SPÖ, and NEOS intends to put the legislative proposal to a vote in the National Council on Thursday. However, passage requires a two-thirds majority, meaning the votes of the Greens are also needed. The FPÖ has already declined, making the opposition party the last remaining potential supplier of a majority.

The Greens criticized the renewable energy expansion targets laid out in the draft as too low and said they would not back the current proposal. They argued for removing the vote from the agenda and continuing negotiations. Energy spokesperson Karin Doppelbauer (NEOS) put it this way: "Die grüne Energierevolution kann und darf nicht von den Grünen verhindert werden."
