BRUCK AN DER LEITHA, Austria — April 16, 2026
A two-day international enforcement operation targeting bus companies along the A4 highway resulted in 420 reported violations, including serious technical defects, social regulation breaches, and cases of drug-impaired driving.
The coordinated action, conducted simultaneously on major traffic routes in Austria and the Czech Republic, focused on international passenger transport between Germany and several Balkan nations. Authorities inspected 37 buses, filed 33 complaints, and removed 12 defective license plates, collecting approximately 52,000 euros in fines and security deposits.
Enforcement Focus and Violations
The operation prioritized bus companies due to documented patterns of noncompliance with driving time limits, rest periods, and vehicle safety standards. Of the 420 reports, 213 involved serious technical defects, while 168 cases stemmed from violations of social regulations governing driver working conditions. Twenty cases involved criminal tampering with driver’s cards or control devices designed to monitor compliance.
Two bus drivers tested positive for drug use, with one losing his license immediately due to his physical and mental condition. Financial police also intervened in multiple cases, though specific details were not disclosed.
