As ORF Wien first reported, the man died one week after the incident from the consequences of his severe injuries. The hospital's press office was initially unavailable for confirmation to the APA.

The explosion destroyed the single-family house in Floridsdorf. The pensioner was buried under the house and had to be rescued by emergency services. He was then taken to a hospital, where he has now succumbed to his injuries.

As the "Krone" reported, the pensioner had repeatedly emphasized to neighbors that he would under no circumstances want to move out of his beloved home. The 93-year-old had previously been granted lifelong residency rights in the house.
