Actor Sam Neill Dies at Age 78

Sam Neill made his film debut in 1971 in "The City of No." His artistic breakthrough came in 1977 with the film "Sleeping Dogs," after which he moved to Australia. He celebrated his first major success in 1979 alongside Judy Davis in "My Brilliant Career."

Breakthrough with "Jurassic Park"

The family stated that the loss was "sudden and unexpected, but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free." They expressly thanked the staff of St Vincent's Private Hospital in Sydney for the "incredible care" Neill received there. Neill had been based in Australia in his final years.

Sam Neill is survived by four children and eight grandchildren. The actor had always spoken only reservedly about his private life. In interviews, he repeatedly described his family as his most important point of reference.
