Halle, 15 June 2026
The German tennis professional Daniel Altmaier has advanced to the round of 16 at the grass-court tournament in Halle with a victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia, while Alexander Zverev will not play his first match until Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Daniel Altmaier from Kempen defeated Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 7-5, 6-4 on the opening day of the main draw at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Westphalia. After roughly an hour and a half, Altmaier converted the decisive break to take the first set 7-5 and kept the upper hand in the second set. The German now finds himself in the last 16 of the tournament.
Altmaier's start after Stuttgart disappointment
For Altmaier, it is his second appearance in this year's grass-court season following a first-round exit at the Boss Open in Stuttgart. In Stuttgart, he fell in three sets to American Frances Tiafoe on the Weissenhof grounds. The Wimbledon tune-up has thus gone considerably better, even though the 27-year-old continues to work on building his form on grass in Halle.
