The Australian football coach Ange Postecoglou will take over the Saudi Arabian top club Al-Nassr FC for the new season and receive a two-year contract there, as the Saudi Pro League club announced.

Postecoglou, who most recently worked as a match analyst for UEFA, succeeds Jorge Jesus at the club from Riyadh. The 71-year-old Portuguese coach had left Al-Nassr after just one year, even though he had recently won the eleventh league title in the club's history with the team – the first since 2019. So now Postecoglou takes over, a coach who is already known in Australia as "Ange the Catalyst" and led Celtic Glasgow to the league title unbeaten in the Scottish league.

Succession of Jorge Jesus

For Al-Nassr, the change on the touchline signals a fresh start after an eventful season. With the title win, the club had underlined its claim to domestic supremacy, but the abrupt departure of Jorge Jesus caused unrest. Postecoglou is now expected to find the balance between big stars and team cohesion. In his first press conference, the Australian will likely also address the expectations of the club's management.

A squad full of star power awaits Postecoglou at the Saudi top club. In Cristiano Ronaldo (41), who is in the round of 16 with Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, João Félix, Sadio Mané, and Kingsley Coman, four absolute world stars will train under his stewardship. Ronaldo, whose contract at Al-Nassr runs until summer 2027, is said to want to finally win the long-coveted AFC Champions League title with the new coach. The Portuguese has repeatedly stressed in the past that this continental triumph is particularly important to him.
