Apple has changed the wording and design of its App Tracking Transparency consent prompt for users in European Union countries following a preliminary finding by Germany's Bundeskartellamt that the original design may breach competition law.
The update, which applies across the EU, alters the way apps must present the question of whether users consent to being tracked across other apps and websites. Apple did not publish a detailed changelog, but the revision comes amid a long-running dispute between the company and European regulators over how the privacy feature is structured.
In February 2025, the Bundeskartellamt reached a preliminary view that Apple's implementation of the so-called App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework could conflict with abuse-of-dominance provisions in German and European competition law. The watchdog's assessment focused on whether Apple's design gave its own services an advantage over third-party apps.
