Argentina's men's national football team could be without its captain Lionel Messi in the final group match of the World Cup in North America against Jordan on Sunday (4:00 a.m. CEST, live on ServusTV), as head coach Lionel Scaloni announced on Thursday.
Rotation as strategic preparation
Following the 3:0 victory against Algeria, Argentina has already secured first place in Group J and reached the round of 16. As a result, the final group match is only about statistics and the question of how extensive the rotation will be for the defending champions. On Thursday, coach Scaloni made clear that he wants to give as many players as possible game time. "I think they deserve it, and whenever the game allows it, we will do it," the coach said regarding possible rests for regular starters. He added: "The idea is to give most of the players a chance to play."
