A 21-year-old woman was seriously injured in the face by a thrown ashtray at a public viewing along the Vienna Danube Canal in Vienna-Leopoldstadt on Thursday evening, losing several teeth and suffering a fractured jaw.

Background of the Incident

The 21-year-old had apparently wanted to spend the evening watching football together, but around 10:30 p.m. the mood escalated along the Danube Canal in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. According to police, a 21-year-old man allegedly threw an ashtray during a verbal altercation. The projectile hit the also 21-year-old woman directly in the face.

The consequences were severe: According to police, the young woman lost several teeth and suffered a fractured jaw. The Vienna Professional Rescue service provided emergency medical care to the 21-year-old and transported her to a hospital. No further information about her condition was available by Friday morning.
