Audi is building its own off-road vehicle plant in Georgia, marking a further expansion in the US.
The opening of its own Audi plant in Georgia represents another step for the company into the US market. The planned SUV production expands the group's existing presence in North America and is expected to create new capacity to meet demand there.
The project is also gaining significance amid trade policy uncertainties in the US. US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on imports into the country. He said such companies would be granted exemptions from tariffs that apply to imports into the US.
Location in the spotlight of trade policy
For Audi and the entire Volkswagen Group, the location therefore represents more than a single production decision. Local manufacturing can reduce dependence on imports and supply routes. At the same time, establishing the facility shifts capacity and jobs to a region where the brand has previously had a less significant presence.
