Vienna, Austria — April 27, 2026 Two years after the World Health Organization declared the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, Austria continues to struggle with significant shortcomings in medical care for patients suffering from post-Covid symptoms, according to new survey data and expert assessments.

Survey Reveals Widespread Dissatisfaction

A recent survey of over 300 participants in Austria found that patients with post-Covid symptoms overwhelmingly view the country’s medical care as inadequate. The findings, corroborated by multiple sources, highlight systemic challenges in addressing long-term health effects of Covid-19.

More than 100,000 people in Austria are estimated to be affected by post-Covid symptoms, based on projections from confirmed infection rates. The survey revealed stark impacts on daily life, with over 90 percent of respondents reporting frequent limitations in their ability to work. Among these, 65.4 percent described their restrictions as permanent.

"Patienten mit Post-Covid-Symptomen empfinden die medizinische Versorgung in Österreich als unzureichend. Die geplante Einrichtung spezialisierter Zentren ist daher sowohl aus medizinischer als auch aus wirtschaftlicher Sicht sinnvoll," according to a translated statement from the survey’s organizers.
