Austria’s beach volleyball pair Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger advanced to the quarterfinals of the Elite-16 ProTour tournament in Brasília on Saturday before bowing out to Swedish opponents.

Strong Start in the Round of 16

Hammarberg and Berger opened their campaign with a decisive victory in the Round of 16, defeating Chile’s Marco and Esteban Grimalt in straight sets (21:15, 21:16). The Austrian duo dominated both sets, showcasing strong defensive play and precise attacks to secure their place in the quarterfinals.

The win marked a promising start for the ÖVV (Austrian Volleyball Federation) pair, who have been steadily climbing the ranks in international competitions. Their performance against the Grimalt brothers, a seasoned Chilean team, demonstrated their ability to compete at the highest level.

Quarterfinal Exit Against Swedish Opponents

The Austrian pair’s run came to an end in the quarterfinals, where they faced Sweden’s Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson. Hammarberg and Berger struggled to find their rhythm, losing in straight sets (13:21, 15:21). The Swedes controlled the match with consistent serving and aggressive net play, leaving the Austrians unable to mount a comeback.
