The pharmaceutical and agricultural group Bayer surpassed market profit expectations in the second quarter, impressing primarily with its agricultural division, while its prescription pharmaceuticals business came in slightly below the prior-year figure but was also better than expected.
The DAX-listed company Bayer surpassed analysts' profit expectations in the most recent quarter. As the figures released on Tuesday showed, the company benefited, among other things, from strong performance in the agricultural division, which recorded a significant increase in operating result.
Agricultural Division as Growth Driver
The DAX-listed company also benefited from solid results in its other business segments. In the prescription pharmaceuticals business, operating result declined somewhat to 1.055 billion euros due to higher costs for marketing new drugs, but it nevertheless performed better than analysts had expected.
