Berlin, April 19, 2026 Germany's highest-ranking civil servants will not receive an additional pay raise as originally planned, according to a new salary table set to take effect in May, which instead caps their monthly base salary at €10,572.91.

Revised Salary Structure

The new pay scale, obtained by Deutsche Presse-Agentur, shows that officials in the B3 salary group will now earn €10,572.91 per month, falling short of the initially proposed increase to €10,854.48. The adjustment comes as part of broader reforms to align civil service pay with recent wage agreements and legal rulings.

The Bundesverfassungsgericht (Federal Constitutional Court) had previously ruled in 2025 that salary regulations for Berlin civil servants between 2008 and 2020 were unconstitutional in nearly 95% of cases. This decision primarily affected police officers, firefighters, and other public servants under the Besoldungsordnung A pay scale.

Legal and Wage Agreement Impacts

The revised salary plan incorporates both the court's ruling and recent collective bargaining agreements. A government spokesperson clarified, "Eine Gehaltserhöhung für Minister und Bundeskanzler durch die Alimentationsanpassung für Beamte war zu keinem Zeitpunkt vorgesehen und findet auch nicht statt." ("A salary increase for ministers and the chancellor through civil service pay adjustments was never planned and will not take place.")
