Berlin, June 3, 2026
A section of Dorotheenstraße in Berlin's government district is to be renamed Yad Vashem Street on January 20, 2027, the 85th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference.
Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) announced the renaming and emphasized its symbolic power. He said: "Berlin is clearly showing: The memory of the Holocaust and of this crime against humanity committed in the name of Germany remains a firm and unshakeable part of our history." With the new address, the Yad Vashem memorial site is to be given a special place in the heart of the government district.
Specifically affected is the section of Dorotheenstraße between Wilhelmstraße in the east and Ebertstraße in the west. This street leads towards the Reichstag building and is thus in the heart of political Berlin, not far from the Bundestag and the Chancellery.
