Potsdam, 09 June 2026
Brandenburg's state Antisemitism Commissioner, Andreas Büttner, presented his first activity report in Potsdam on Tuesday and warned of an increasing trivialization of anti-Jewish hatred in society.
The report covers the period from June 2024 to May 2026. At the presentation, Büttner emphasized that the position, newly created in 2024, was necessary and had made antisemitism more visible in society. The report paints a picture of a concerning development in Brandenburg that goes far beyond individual incidents.
Over the past year, Büttner said he dealt with 534 suspected cases. After intensive review, 116 cases were forwarded to the Specialist Office for Antisemitism Brandenburg for further assessment. These cases contained indications of offenses such as insults, threats, property damage, exclusion, and attacks on Jewish institutions.
