Vienna, 19 August 2026

Following a break-in in Vienna-Margareten, a suspect feigned health problems during his arrest; a second, 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody inside the building with the assistance of a police service dog.

The incident occurred in the area overseen by the Margareten City Police Command, where officers became aware of two suspected burglars. During the first arrest, one of the men claimed to be suffering from health complaints, apparently in an attempt to influence the police's further course of action. The officers did not fall for the pretext and continued the operation.

During the search inside the building, a police service dog was deployed. The animal was able to pick up the trail and track down the second suspect, according to the investigation. A second man, a 17-year-old Syrian, was then arrested in the building.
