A 56-year-old woman was jolted from sleep around 6 a.m. on Saturday morning in her allotment garden house in Vienna-Simmering by noises and came upon a stranger inside who was in the process of taking her belongings.

As Vienna's law enforcement authorities reported on Sunday, the resident had initially assumed her cat was causing the noise because she had left the front door of the house slightly ajar. "But that was not the case, because suddenly she found herself face to face with a man who was taking the woman's belongings."

The woman fled the house and alerted the police from a neighbor's home. Her description of the suspect proved decisive during the search: officers from the Simmeringer Hauptstraße and Favoritenstraße police stations were able to stop and arrest the alleged perpetrator not far from the scene.
