A 22-year-old burglar was caught sleeping inside a Vienna supermarket after breaking in through a sliding door, police confirmed Thursday.
Burglar Discovered by Employee
An employee arriving for work at a supermarket in Vienna’s Landstraße district made an unexpected discovery early Wednesday morning: a sleeping intruder. The 22-year-old man had forced open a sliding door to enter the closed store.
Police were called at 5:45 a.m. after the employee spotted the man. Authorities later revealed that the suspect had attempted to break into the same supermarket just three days prior.
Repeat Offender Uncovered
Investigations showed the burglar had a history with the store. He had previously targeted the same location, though details of that earlier incident were not disclosed.
The man was taken into custody without incident. Police did not confirm whether he had consumed alcohol before the break-in, though reports noted he had drunk an alcoholic beverage inside the store.
