Opposition parties in Gelsenkirchen say they are prepared to back a council motion to remove AfD mayor Norbert Emmerich from office after a video surfaced showing him and AfD state lawmaker Enxhi Seli-Zacharias pressing brooms and dustpans on residents they presumed to have a migration background.
The footage, which is no longer available online, shows Emmerich, the AfD mayor (Bürgermeister) of Gelsenkirchen, and Seli-Zacharias, a member of the AfD state parliament (Landtagsabgeordnete), approaching people on a city street and handing them cleaning tools. According to a description of the video, the two politicians presumed the residents had a migration background and instructed them to sweep the street. In the recording, Seli-Zacharias demands that these people must leave the city: "Zudem fordert Seli-Zacharias, diese Menschen müssten die Stadt verlassen."
