Grove, 19 August 2026
The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz has decided to extend his contract with the British Williams team and will thus continue his career at the racing stable from Grove.
The decision ends a period of uncertainty surrounding the Spaniard's future in the premier class of motorsport. After the departure of Logan Sargeant, Williams had relied on Sainz as an experienced driver for the past season to further advance the structural rebuilding work at the factory in Grove. The former Ferrari driver brought not only racing experience but also a well-honed technical understanding from several top teams.
Team principal James Vowles expressed his relief on Wednesday about his driver's staying and highlighted his role within the team: "Seit seinem Einstieg sind Carlos' Talent hinter dem Lenkrad und sein Engagement im Werk für dieses Projekt von unschätzbarem Wert – Tag für Tag arbeitet er mit seinen Ingenieuren daran, jede Millisekunde herauszuholen", praised the Briton. Vowles thus pointed to the importance of the continuous coordination between driver and engineers for the sporting development of the racing stable.
